Welcome to RB Sportfishing! I’m Leonard VandenBerg — but most folks just call me Capt’n Lenny. With over 50 years of chasing fish across Michigan’s world-class waters, I’ve pretty much seen (and caught) it all — from feisty bluegill as a kid to trophy King Salmon, hard-fighting steelhead, and slabs of walleye that make your line sing. What started as a lifelong passion for fishing has grown into a mission: putting people on fish, creating memories, and sharing the excitement of a solid tug on the line — whether it’s your first fish ever or you’re chasing a personal best. I specialize in light-tackle, hands-on guided trips across West Michigan and beyond:
- Spring walleye jigging on the Detroit River and St. Clair River (walleye, musky, sturgeon, smallmouth bass)
- Year-round action on the beautiful Kalamazoo River — fall salmon runs, spring steelhead, summer smallmouth, and everything in between
- Late-summer guided salmon jigging trips out of top Lake Michigan ports (Ludington, Manistee, Muskegon, and more)
I run intimate trips with a maximum of 3 guests, so you get personalized attention, real instruction, and plenty of time on the water. I love seeing first-timers light up when their rod doubles over, and I get just as excited helping seasoned anglers dial in a tough bite. Whether you’re bringing the kids, planning a guys’ trip, or just want to experience one of Michigan’s underrated rivers or big-lake tributaries, my goal is simple: we’re going fishing, and we’re going to have a great time doing it.
